The ability to achieve is within each of us. Goals and dreams come true predictably and reliably when we follow a proven pathway.

1. EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF YOUR WRITTEN GOALS. If it’s not in writing it doesn’t exist! Less than five percent of the population set goals in writing. Written goals produce better results than if goals are vaguely floating through your mind. Written goals are powerful roadmaps that can more easily lead you to the destination of your choice. Define what you want, in writing, giving thought and attention to all aspects of life such as health, business, relationship and recreational. Review them often!

2. POST YOUR GOALS WHERE YOU CAN VIEW THEM DAILY. We get out of life what we most think about. That’s why it is crucial to post your goals where you can view them on a regular basis. It reminds you of what is really important to you in life. It is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day distractions of life. One incredible way to focus your thought-power is to place your goals in your office on the wall, in your garage on large poster paper, or on 3×5 cards you can put in your car or in your calendar organizer. Reminding yourself of what you want is one of the best ways to get what you want.

3. PRAISE YOURSELF UPON THE COMPLETION OF A GOAL. The most powerful reinforcement is self reinforcement. Every time you do something that moves you in the direction you want to go, you have to reinforce that behavior. Give yourself a pat on the back or tell yourself what a great job you are doing. Big or small, whenever you do something right, praise yourself. For reinforcement to work, you must reinforce in the moment. Not before and not after, right then and there. ASKING FOR HELP

You can get what you want by asking for help. We ask coworkers for help on projects, we ask our friends and family to help us with everything from babysitting the kids to moving furniture to asking for money in a time of need. From the cradle to the grave we ask for help in order to get what we want. But asking for help, and getting help, is an art.

1. KNOW WHEN TO ASK FOR HELP. Asking for help is a balancing act. Some people have a hard time asking for help and others ask too much. Don’t ask for help when you are perfectly capable of doing it yourself. If you ask for help too often people will be less inclined to help you. Save your requests for when you really need them.

2. BE COURTEOUS BY SAYING “PLEASE” AND “THANK YOU”. Words have the power to create or destroy relationships. Words that will work in your favor are “please” and “thank you”. Saying “please” before a request increases your probability of receiving a request. And saying “thank you” increases the probability of getting more help in the future.

3. GIVE BACK. Reciprocation makes the world go around. If you ask for help be prepared to give help in return. People are more likely to honor your requests for help if they know you will help them when they are in need.

The only difference between you and your competitors is the level of customer service satisfaction you offer. The path to excellent customer service begins with a genuine commitment to create and maintain a service-oriented company culture. Here is a list of customer service practices you might want to implement or strengthen.

1. USE A FRIENDLY GREETING. Scary but true, most people skip right over this simple customer service practice. It spells out to your customer that you truly appreciate that they decided to do business with you and your company. One of the best ways to initiate a friendly attitude is to greet every customer who walks through the doors of your business. It’s no secret that people prefer to be associated with, and greeted by, friendly people.

2. PROVIDE ACCESS TO INFORMATION. You ask a person behind the counter and they are not sure; you look for a sign, nothing in sight; you enter every key word you can think of, and still no satisfaction; you are transferred from person to person, but no one seems to know what to do. The key is to make sure you provide customers with access to the information they need to do business with you! It’s imperative that everyone, in any organization, be armed with the information needed to answer the potential questions of customers. And, if they are unable to provide the necessary information, they need to at least know where to find the necessary information.

3. UNDER PROMISE & OVER DELIVER. Too often, out of the want to please customers, employees promise more than they can deliver. The way to win with customers is to under promise and over deliver. For example, say it takes five business days to ship a product to a customer. Lately though, it has only been taking two days. Avoid promising two day shipping. Let them know it can take up to five days. When the package arrives early, you become the hero. You get the idea! Always follow through on what you promise.

3REAL LIFE HABITS FOR SUCCESS ® RESOLVE YOUR CONFLICT

Conflict is part of life, almost as unavoidable as the common cold. Even the most intelligent and ethical people will differ. Sibling rivalry, friendship feuds and disgruntled co-workers are part of life. With the right tools conflict can produce great results. It can actually bring people closer together when the conflict is resolved.

1. FOCUS ON SOLVING PROBLEMS NOT CONTROLLING OTHERS. There are many ways to peel a potato. The goal is to not solve the problem “my way” or “your way” but rather to develop a solution that meets everyone’s needs. We must practice the “it’s not about me” principle. Get to the core of the problem so you can solve it, and leave your ego behind!

2. SCHEDULE A MEETING. Problems don’t go away because they are ignored. Have a sit down. This is the intervention. The air needs to be cleared and should occur behind closed doors. This gives the people involved the chance to work things out so they don’t erupt into something larger than they are. Talking about it can function as a safely relief valve.

3. USE AN UNBIASED THIRD PARTY. Who do you know, or who can you call upon that does not have an interest or something to gain. This can be a consultant or an arbiter, or a referee, or an impartial and honest co-worker. This is an opportunity to hear an objective opinion on how to possibly solve the issue.

3 REAL LIFE HABITS FOR SUCCESS ® BUILD YOUR TEAM

Yes you! Synergy is defined as a combined action; a compatibility and cooperation of individual elements—the sum of the parts being greater than their individual components. Unless you do your part within the equation then the equation will not work. You don’t have to be a renowned physicist to understand this concept.

1. FULFILL YOUR OBLIGATION. Give 100 percent of yourself. Give little regard if you think others might not follow through. Do your absolute very best to do your part. Just make it happen.

2. DEFINE THE EXPECTATIONS OF ALL TEAM MEMBERS. To create a team that works together well, all members must know and agree on what it is they are going to contribute to the team’s purpose and what types of behaviors are appropriate. Does everyone know what the goals or the measurable objectives are of the team? Does every team member know and understand their specific role within the team? Don’t make it an international mystery. Spell out what needs to be done, and who needs to do what.

3. TREAT EVERYONE AS IMPORTANT. Everyone piece in the puzzle is significant, whether it be in the spot light or not. Most people are so busy in their own lives that they aren’t in the least bit interested in the lives of others.Why should they be? No one seems to be concerned for them! The truth is that your life will be beautifully enhanced by tuning into the lives of others. The bottom line is respect!
